Applying for a no-parking zone: How it works in Nuremberg

2026-02-18 4 min

For the moving van you often need a free parking space right outside the front door. We explain how to apply for a no-parking zone in Nuremberg — and who can do it for you.

When do you need a no-parking zone?

Whenever you want to keep one or more parking spaces on a public road free for the moving van. In Nuremberg this is particularly useful in the city centre, in old building districts like Gostenhof or St. Johannis and in narrow side streets. Without a no-parking zone you risk the moving van having to park far away — which costs time and therefore money.

How to apply for a no-parking zone in Nuremberg

  • Responsible authority: Public Order Office (Ordnungsamt) of the City of Nuremberg
  • Apply: Online via the city's citizen portal or in person
  • Lead time: At least 3–5 working days before moving day
  • Information needed: Date, time, address, number of spaces required
  • Costs: Approx. €20–50 per no-parking sign (depending on municipality)
  • Put up signs: At least 24 hours beforehand so vehicles can move away

You can submit the application directly online — via the City of Nuremberg's Public Space Services (SÖR) (German only), under "Ausnahmegenehmigung/Haltverbot für Umzug" (moving-related exemption).

What happens without a no-parking zone?

Without an official stopping place the moving van can stop briefly for loading and unloading but may need to park further away. This significantly increases carrying times — and therefore the total duration of the move. There is also a risk of a fine for the driver.
